Green Colombia Tolima Miraflores Selection 1KG

$25.00

About the coffee Situated in Planadas in the Tolima Department, near Colombia's highest peak, Nevado del Huila, this coffee-growing region features diverse tropical mountain climates. The department's geography spans from glacial zones at 5000 masl with temperatures below O°C to warm valleys at 400 masl with temperatures around 30°C. The name "Tolima" comes from the Pijao language, meaning "Snow River or Cloud," reflecting the region's dramatic topography. The area's rich soil characteristics and favourable environmental conditions create an optimal environment for coffee cultivation.

This coffee falls under the Miraflores Selection, which means 'behold the flowers,' a tribute to the rich diversity of regional Colombian coffee production. All lots are sourced from Colombia's finest coffee-growing departments, bringing stunning seasonal and regional freshness to the fore. Regions such as Tolima, Antioquia, Risaralda, Nariño, Cauca, Cundinamarca and Huila offer unique and diverse flavour profiles conditioned by the terroir within their boundaries.

Local producers enhance productivity through sustainable farming practices, despite having small plots. Each coffee lot undergoes a meticulous process: harvesting, pulping, fermentation for up to a day, washing, milling and patio drying for about two weeks, followed by mechanical drying to ensure consistency. Tolima is Colombia's third-largest coffee producer, contributing 12% of the national output, with 116,229 hectares of coffee cultivated in 71,498 estates by 61,465 coffee-growing families. Beyond coffee, farmers cultivate beans, corn, bananas and sugarcane, enriching the agricultural landscape.

The Miraflores program embraces the diversity and quality from both main and fly-crop harvests, offering a renewed seasonal focus that ensures the freshest and most diverse Colombian lots are brought to our shores for our roasting partners to enjoy.
